Photoshop skills + Typography

I wanted to try and learn some Photoshop skills and attempt to create 'demon eyes' as well as try out some typography ideas. I did some research to see what most other paranormal horrors were using on their movie posters. Here are some examples:

I noticed that in all three of these examples, there is the grey colour featuring quite a lot. Also, the actual typography is all in capital letters and using quite bold but sensible / straightforward fonts. Sinister and the Possession also feature 'dripping' and other effects across the text which help add some dimension and is also appropriate for genre. If we make our own poster, I think it is important to consider colour scheme and font. I am aware of the website dafont.com if we ever need font inspiration.

I used the following tutorial from YouTube to create the typography:

Evaluation

I think that for a first attempt use of Photoshop that I did pretty well, especially considering I am used to different image editing softwares including Paint Shop Pro and Gimp. Using Photoshop was a bit different to these softwares and far more complex than the others and so getting to grips with the controls was difficult. However, with patience I managed to produce images to a good standard that reflect those in the tutorials. I also tried out my own things, including downloading fonts from dafont.com and trying my own colouring and layer techniques. I am happy with the results and have gained some knowledge about Photoshop and hope I can use these skills again.
