Prelminary Title Work

Sources Of Inspiration

The masthead is in capitals, making it stand out. Black may signify death and ghosts. The colour is a significant element in connoting the genre

The white has a juxtaposition with the grey, dull background. This may give the white negative connotations. The title is slightly distorted.

Again the title is white, slightly distorted with a possessive looking background image.

The title is red, connoting either death, blood or demonic related issues. A diffused edit has been applied, complementing the meaning of the title.

To test out some of my own ideas for my groups' final piece, I searched some fonts on http://www.dafont.com/. After clicking on the 'horror' category, I came up with the following possible ideas:

The title is distorted. It has connotations of demonic movement. The manipulation of the letter positioning adds to the possessive theme.
The title relates to the victim represented in our opening - a young girl. It's slightly distorted, connoting possession.

The title instantly tells the audience about the sub-genre of the film - supernatural horror/possession.
    Evaluation

From looking at examples of titles used for supernatural horror films, I found that many appear to have a distorted type look to them. This technique can give the title a possessive look, effectively telling audience members about the sub-genre. One thing I noticed however, is sometimes titles with a distorted look can connote a different sub-genre of a horror, perhaps a slasher. Therefore, it is essential to include a title which connotes conventions which meets audience expectations for a supernatural horror.
In terms of colour, colours such as black and white are effective. Black is useful because the colour carries possessive connotations. White however, needs to be careful use of, as the colour itself holds purity. Therefore, choosing a background colour is vital in creating a contrast.
